Wachesaw Plantation is one one of those old southern communities that reminds you of a Southern Living magazine feature. Once you drive through the gate and make your way past the historical equestrian center it’s as though you are entering into your own fairy tale world. From sprawling live oaks draped in spanish moss, to a private waterfront restaurant, Wachesaw Plantation has so many unique features and benefits to offer its residents.

So, what is the Wachesaw Plantation all about?

1. Size and property types

The Wachesaw Plantation is roughly 740 acres (including the golf course & natural protected areas). *These numbers may not be exact. They were determined using an online service and could differ from the actual acreage.

  • The community is situated around the precious private golf club, Wachesaw Plantation Country Club.
  • The community is a custom home community made up of various property types.
    • Large Estate Homes

    • Smaller to mid sized homes

    • Detached Cottage homes (landscape maintenance included)

    • Attached Condos/Cottages

    • Direct Intracoastal waterway condos

2. Location

The Wachesaw Plantation is located about 3.5 miles from one of the most desirable stretches of beach you’ll find along the south east coastline. This area is called Huntington Beach State Park and is a total of roughly 3-4 miles of undeveloped beachfront. 

Wachesaw is also very conveniently located to the famous Murrells Inlet Marshwalk area (only about 2 miles away).

For you boaters, how does the idea of having an Intercoastal Waterway Marina right outside the gate sound? Wacca-Wache Marina is located right beside the Wachesaw property. 

The location is convenient to all Murrells Inlet has to offer including grocery markets, restaurants, entertainment, and many other shops.. Below are distances to some of the staples. Please contact us if you would like to learn more about the location.

  • 5.2 Miles to Garden City Beach Pier  (Be sure to watch the video on our Murrells Inlet page for an explanation of Garden City Beach)
  • 3.9 Miles to Huntington Beach State Park (3-4 miles of protected beaches with public parking, nature trails, events, sightseeing, inlets, wildlife, multiple restroom facilities, gift shop, and restaurant). *Residents can purchase a yearly pass for $99 per year *as of 2023.
  • 3.9 Miles to Brookgreen Gardens 
  • 1.9 Miles to the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk (Be sure to watch the video for Marshwalk video footage)
  • Within 3 Miles of 5 other golf courses (all private)
  • 3.5 Miles to The Prince Creek Shopping Village (This shopping village offers 2 markets - Publix & Lowes Food). There is a Food Lion that is closer in proximity and also a Walmart neighborhood market about the same distance as the Prince Creek Village. 
  • 1 mile to closest hospital (Waccamaw Hospital)

3. Age, Style, and Square Footage

Wachesaw Club is a large community developed on an old Rice Plantation. The earliest settler of this land appears to date back to the early 1700’s. The majestic southern live oaks throughout the grounds display its rich history. The homes that exist within the community today date back to as early as the 1980’s. There are a number of various property types from homes, townhomes/condos, cottages, and even Intercoastal waterfront condos. The age of construction does vary from property to property. The entire Wachesaw community is made up of custom homes. Offering a wide arrangement of options and uniqueness other communities in the area do not.

There are a total of 6 different section of the community:

  1. Richmond Hill (Larger estate homes - Minimum allowable heated square footage is 2,250) 
  2. Hunters Woods (Minimum allowable heated square footage is 2,000)
  3. Carriage Run (Minimum allowable heated square footage is 1,850) 
  4. Wachesaw Farms | Carriage Run Cottages (Minimum allowable heated square footage is 1,500. These are structured as HPR’s. So in easier to understand terms, a detached condo)
  5. Oak Grove Cottages (These condos range from 1-2 story layouts)
  6. Governor’s Landing Condos (Golf course and Direct Intracoastal waterway condos)

Single Family Homes:

  • Single Family Homes range in size with the smallest being 1,850 heated square feet.
  • There are various types of construction design and floor plans (many single story plans). 
  • Original community development started in the 1980’s. However, there are many new homes that have been built since then.
  • Lot locations vary. The community offers wooded, water, and golf course front lots.
  • There are HOA restrictions and monthly dues for the single family homes.
  • Personal pools are allowed within the community if the lot spacing allows it.

Condos & Townhomes:  

  • The Condos and Townhouses range from about 1,200-2,400 heated square feet.
  • Like the homes, the first condo community was developed in the early 1980s.
  • There are both condos and HPR’s available within the Wachesaw Plantation. (Please note: Breaking down the difference of an "HPR" vs. condo per the classification type is a rather complex topic. Please reach out for further clarification).

4. Amenities

Wachesaw Plantation is a POA situated around a private country club called Wachesaw Plantation Club. When you purchase property within the community you ARE NOT required to join the private club. However, in order to enjoy all the wonderful amenities the club offers, you will need to purchase a club membership.

The membership levels range from a social membership (giving access to the clubhouse, pool, dining, and scheduled activities) to a full-membership providing access to all the club has to offer (from clay tennis courts to the award-winning golf course).

It’s important to understand that there are no community amenities within Wachesaw Plantation, so you will need to join the club to gain access to amenities within the gates of Wachesaw.
